Buying Animal Products

I don’t know about you but I’m extremely uncomfortable even buying animal products. With my own money or with other people’s money. I don’t like saying yes to that industry.

Which might be a bit of a problem as I start producing short films for people. The producer is usually the one who buys the food for the crew. Or if my family or friends asks me to buy something while I’m at the store. How do you deal with this?

  1. I’ve explained to my family that I’m not comfortable actively supporting companies that exploit animals, so I wouldn’t be picking something up at the store for them unless it was vegan. If we go out to lunch together and they choose an omnivorous meal, I won’t be treating them. At my wedding, I provided vegan food, and everyone enjoyed it. If you’re in charge of providing the food at your place of business, and it’s your money, you get to decide what to buy. Anyone who isn’t satisfied with the options available can bring their own food. I have found that my family respected that I stood strong in my beliefs, and wouldn’t compromise, and I think that your employees or crew will mostly be happy to be eating food they don’t have to pay for, especially if you don’t make a big thing out of it being vegan. Some of them might not even notice.

  2. I guess in the case that you have highlighted, offer to go to the supermarket or wherever to buy the food. Make it sound like you are doing the producer a favour. On a general level, it is not a problem I tend to have, as I live on my own so I don’t have to shop for other people
