How Becoming More Aware of Injustice Sometimes Sucks

Now I’m not saying that I will ever eat meat, dairy or eggs again. Because I won’t. But sometimes not being able to eat 90 percent of the foods that most people eat or are in stores does get annoying. I’m trying to find protein bars and for some reason a majority of the ones that are in the stores have whey protein in them. When they really don’t have to.  Or there are a few candy that I can actually eat. Granted I don’t eat candy much anyways. (Skittles are vegan. So I’m extremely happy about that.) But any candy that has chocolate in it (besides dark chocolate) isn’t vegan. So there goes M&M’s.

You can’t unsee what you have seen. I can’t unsee what the cows or chickens go through in order to produce meat, dairy or eggs.  So I won’t eat them. Because doing so will go against every bit of ethics in me. I guess being a highly sensitive person has its downsides. Googling factory farms while being sensitive to injustice, pain, death and suffering; isn’t a good idea if you want to continue eating the way that you eat.

I guess I’m trying to say that sometimes not eating the foods that all my friends enjoy on a regular basis or reading nutritional labels religiously isn’t something that I ever thought that I would do. Veganism, even as a vegetarian, seemed extreme. But killing and causing suffering to millions of animals that doesn’t need to be eaten, seem extreme to me.

  1. I know exactly what you’re talking about, I feel like this a lot! Try Googling some things that are accidentally vegan, like Oreos, or having a look around independent health food stores, they’re usually quite good! I don’t live in the USA so I’m not entirely clued up on where is best to shop, but I’ve heard people rave about Trader Joes, and when I was visiting America, though it was hard, I did manage to hunt out some vegan treats. Don’t lose heart, remember why you’re doing what you’re doing! Hopefully one day we can eat as many M&M’s as we want! 😉
